The congregation and choir at Concordia Theological Seminary’s annual Good Shepherd Institute in Fort Wayne, Indiana, sing the hymn, “Voices Raised to You We Offer” (Lutheran Service Book #795) during the hymn festival on November 2, 2015. This hymn by Herman G. Stuempfle, Jr. is based on Colossians 3:16; Isaiah 12:2; 2 Corinthians 4:13; and Psalm 147:1. The tune is “Song of Praise” and was composed by Carolyn Jennings.

Our simple recordings are done during a holy time and not always able to provide something to view but will let you hear a sample of beautiful, sacred music such as what you might find in an LCMS Lutheran church today. Please understand the limits imposed by small camera microphones… and plan to attend in person and hear Lutheran liturgy yourself.

“Like an Animal in a Cage” Voices from Solitary Confinement

A staged reading of written correspondences from people either currently held in solitary confinement and first-person testimonials of those who have survived it. The Wisconsin Department of Corrections routinely subjects incarcerated people to months and years of extreme isolation in solitary confinement. Locked-down and alone for twenty three hours every day, their one hour of daily “recreation” takes place in an empty pen that resembles a dog pen. Many never get the opportunity to leave their cells or have any meaningful human contact. People emerge from these experiences deeply traumatized and damaged. In the hour-long performance at Plymouth UCC Church in Milwaukee, survivors share their experiences from solitary confinement and tell how it has changed them.
