Las Vegas is doing it’s part to fight climate change. Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian, hosts of The Young Turks, break it down. Tell us what you think in the comment section below.

“Just last week, Las Vegas announced it has reached its goal of powering the city entirely with renewable energy, meeting a goal the city has been working toward for nearly a decade. The goal was reached with the launch of Boulder Solar 1, a 100-megawatt solar plant located just outside the city.

Las Vegas began its renewable energy project in 2008, reducing electricity usage through sustainability programs and installing solar panels on city buildings. Las Vegas will also receive power from Hoover Dam for the first time in its history, starting at the end of 2017.

The city has reduced its electricity usage by more than 30 percent due to these initiatives. Estimates place the city’s yearly energy savings at approximately $5 million.

Las Vegas is now the largest U.S. city to be powered entirely by renewable energy. The second largest city, Burlington, Vermont, achieved this status in 2014.”

Via Good As You/The Huffington Post: “Sean Harris, senior pastor of Berean Baptist Church in Fayetteville, spoke at length in support of North Carolina’s proposed Amendment 1, which would define marriage in the state constitution as between one man and one woman and would outlaw civil unions and domestic partnerships, during an hour-long sermon on Sunday. In this clip, provided by Jeremy Hooper of the blog Good as You, a man identified as Harris is heard urging his congregation to attack their children if they appear to be exhibiting behavior outside of gender norms…”.* Ana Kasparian and Cenk Uygur break it down on The Young Turks.

‘Sentenced to Church’ Judge vs. ACLU

Views:34211|Rating:4.80|View Time:4:25Minutes|Likes:855|Dislikes:35
“In November, Muskogee County District Judge Mike Norman stipulated that 17-year-old Tyler Alred should attend church regularly for 10 years as a requirement to avoid a prison sentence, the Tulsa World reported. The teen admitted to police he had been drinking in the Dec. 3, 2011, crash that killed his 16-year-old passenger and friend, John Luke Dum, according to the newspaper.

The ACLU of Oklahoma filed a complaint with state judicial misconduct authorities Tuesday alleging Norman’s ruling disregarded religious liberties in the federal and state constitutions.”*

The ACLU has filed a complaint against District Judge Mike Norman for sentencing a teen in a manslaughter case to church. Judge Norman stands by his sentence, but is it a fair punishment? What if the case had been tried in another state, and what if the teen had been a different religion? Is there any legal precedent to this? Ana Kasparian, Kim Horcher (Host, Nerd Alert), and Jayar Jackson discuss the ramifications of the judge’s decision and what he could have done instead.

Megachurch Pastor VERY Sorry For Wife’s NFL Comments

Rev. Ron Carpenter, Jr. has issued a genuine apology on behalf of the couple. Cenk Uygur, Ana Kasparian, Ben Mankiewicz, and Amberia Allen, hosts of The Young Turks, discuss. Tell us what you think in the comment section below. Join TYT:

“The pastor of a South Carolina megachurch issued a video apology on Thursday for his wife’s racist anti-NFL rant on Facebook in which she insisted that the protests “will not fix racism! Duh!!! Only Jesus!”
Fox Carolina reported that Rev. Ron Carpenter, Jr. of Greenville, SC’s Redemption Church posted the video on Facebook after his wife Hope Carpenter sparked an online conflagration with a post criticizing pro athletes for protesting police brutality by taking a knee during the national anthem.
On her personal Facebook page, Hope Carpenter wrote, “This will not fix racism! Duh!!! Only Jesus! If you wanna kneel… then u [sic] better be praying to the one and only who can heal our land.”
Black athletes, she said, should “stop thinking about it from your history or race” and admit that “our country is not yo [sic] blame!”
The brutal backlash, said Ron Carpenter, has left Hope too “emotional” to address viewers, so he made the video to offer up both of their apologies.”*
