Shorewood Rapids with Maps & Street View – Milwaukee Flood of 2010

July 22, 2010 – I edited this video of a few crazy guys walking down Oakland Ave in Shorewood, WI, during the flood on July 22, 2010, together with Google Maps & images from Google Street View, to give a perspective of where they were, and what it usually looks like.

I hope none of them got sick after this – at least they actually *saw* some crap floating in the water at the end, so they realized that that was what they were wading through. Well, that, and worse. Not to mention they could have been swept away by that river barreling down Edgewood Ave. I assume they all got out ok though.

Kirby’s Augusta – The Haunted Pillar – Augusta Cyclone Storm – Broad Street Market – Cursed Monument

Views:6488|Rating:4.81|View Time:2:54Minutes|Likes:26|Dislikes:1
In 1878 a rare and destructive cyclone hit downtown Augusta, Georgia. It crumbled many of the buildings and wiped out most of the railroad. When it hit the old market on Broad Street it was said to have “lifted it up and dropped it down in pieces.” Today, all that remains is one pillar from that market. It is at the intersection of 5th and Broad Street. It is said to be haunted too. In fact, before the cyclone hit in 1878, a traveling preacher was angered because he was not allowed to preach at the market. He then cursed the market and promised of a horrible wind. Well, the cyclone came and now it is said the pillar is haunted. If you touch it you will die. Well, not really. But Bill Kirby tries out this theory.

Produced by CBS 42, this Emmy Award Winning 30 minute documentary focuses on the sculpture by artist Elizabeth MacQueen and her Four Spirits project. This memorial honors the four children – Addie Mae Collins, Denise McNair, Carole Robertson and Cynthia Wesley – who were killed over 50 years ago on September 15, 1963 in the bombing at the 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama.

The monument depicts one girl seated on a bench with an open Bible in her lap. Besides her, two girls are seated, one adjusting the bow on the other’s dress while the fourth girl, positioned a few feet away, beckons the others to come join her as she prepares to go to Sunday School.

Also included in the monument are six doves – 2 doves for Virgil Ware and Johnny Robinson who were also murdered on that day – each representing a life lost during the violence in Birmingham that day.
