San Francisco – Scott McKenzie

“San Francisco (Be Sure to Wear Flowers in Your Hair)” is a song, written by John Phillips of The Mamas & the Papas, and sung by Scott McKenzie. It was written and released in June 1967 to promote the Monterey Pop Festival.

McKenzie’s song became an instant hit. The lyrics tell the listeners, “If you’re going to San Francisco, be sure to wear some flowers in your hair”. Due to the difference between the lyrics and the actual title, the title is often quoted as “San Francisco (Be Sure to Wear Some Flowers in Your Hair)”. “San Francisco” reached number four on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States, and was number one in the United Kingdom and most of Europe. The single is purported to have sold over 5 million copies worldwide. The song is credited with bringing thousands of young people to San Francisco, California during the late 1960s.[citation needed]

In Central Europe, young people adopted “San Francisco” as an anthem for freedom, and it was widely played during Czechoslovakia’s 1968 Prague Spring uprising against Soviet rule.[citation needed]

The song has been featured in several films, including Frantic, The Rock and Forrest Gump (Wikipedia).

2 Corinthians 12:9-10 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 10 For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

On April 30, 2017, St. Paul will commemorate ushering in a new era of ministry work under the leadership of The Reverend Dr. Robert C. Scott.

On this day, we will formally install Dr. Scott as the 5th Senior Pastor of St. Paul Baptist Church in Charlotte, NC.

Mountains are high the perfect example of God’s wonders.
Earth that towers over a valley.
A valley that imagines but doesn’t believe they can conquer it.
Thinking about the tools, the skills, the knowledge, to climb to the top and scream this is mine can be daunting.
But I tell you this,
If you have faith…
Even as small as a mustard seed you can say to this mountain, our mountain
“Move from here to there!” and it would move.
As a city surrounded by mountains,
It demands that we have a people that walk by faith.
Faith that moves.
Because in the end it is our courage that will move this mountain.
And make the way for many.
We are the people to do it.
And with one voice we say,
