Trip to Shafter, Texas-High Mass, 17th Sunday after Pentecost, Fr. Michael Rodriguez 10-9-11

+J.M.J.+ How much do we love the Traditional Latin Mass? We love it enough to travel hundreds of miles to attend the Mass of All Time! About ninety people were in attendance at Fr. Michael Rodriguez’s Traditional Latin Mass (High Mass, Seventeenth Sunday after Pentecost), on Sunday, October 9th, 2011. It took place at Sacred Heart Catholic Church (built in 1890, in what was then known as a mining town, now considered a “ghost town”), located in the small village of Shafter, Texas (population-40). The faithful came from New Mexico and Texas; Las Cruces, Alamogordo, El Paso, Alpine, Marfa, and Presidio. It was a beautiful Mass and the sermon was bilingual in English and Spanish. The choir and schola were comprised mostly of youth, the future of the One True Church! Fr. Rodriguez, “El Cura de Shafter”, gave a blessing over the people and food in the church hall afterward, and everyone had a great time socializing. Fr. Rodriguez’s faith and courage continues to inspire us to greater love of God and neighbor (esp. via the spiritual and corporal works of mercy) and to remain steadfast in the one, true, holy Catholic Faith.

Monthly Tridentine Masses are offered for all our benefactors who are also remembered in our daily prayers. Deo grátias! Thank you!
