This is track 6 from the album “That’s The Day We Are Looking For”.
Lead by Diane Baker
Norman L. Wagner was born on January 14, 1942 in Youngstown, OH. He accepted the call to salvation at the age of 14. Bishop Wagner’s spiritual gifts were nurtured by the leadership of his spiritual father, Bishop Raymond L. Robinson, who was the pastor of Mt. Calvary Pentecostal Church in Youngstown, OH. Bishop Wagner’s mother, grandparents, aunts and uncles were charter members of Calvary. Bishop Wagner, a consummate worshipper, lived and loved for worship, thus coining the phrase “Worship is A Lifestyle” – NLW. His manner, his deportment, his conversation was evidence that worship was indeed a lifestyle and he led his life with excellence. He was known as a preacher’s preacher, teacher’s teacher, songwriter, singer, author, administrator par excellence, musical arranger, producer and dynamic choir director. It was once said that this theologian wore his anointing and his relationship with God like a well-tailored garment. His knowledge of the scripture was unparalleled.

A natural born leader, he held many positions within his home church and organization, the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World, Inc. At the age of 23 he acknowledged the call to minister the Word of God. Bishop Wagner, supported by his loving wife – Rita Helen Wagner whom he married in February of 1964, later left his successful management position with Strouss Department Store to embark upon the evangelistic field full time. He later was elected by the people and called by God to become the pastor of Mt. Calvary Pentecostal Church, which he renamed Calvary Ministries International. Through his leadership this small church grew to become an international ministry boasting over 2,500 members, one of the largest congregations in the city of Youngstown. Bishop Wagner was recognized as the pioneering influence in Black gospel television. In 1976 he created Tel-A-World Ministries and became the executive producer of “The Power of Pentecost”, a locally produced and nationally distributed gospel television program. The Power of Pentecost was chosen to represent the Armed Forces Radio and Television Network, reaching over 57 foreign countries weekly. Always committed to enhancing the quality of life for all members of the community, Bishop Wagner spearheaded the construction of Calvary Towers, a 3.2 million dollar, 7 story, 70 unit [HUD 202, Section 8] senior citizens’ complex. A man with the heart for young people and his community, he instituted the “Sons of Thunder Little League Football Team” which has been in existence for almost 30 years. This outreach ministry helped to shape the lives of the young people who came through this program, producing not only professional athletes, but outstanding professionals in business, politics, education and the like. Bishop Wagner envisioned a leadership conference to equip leaders for destiny, thus founding Pentecost In Perspective International in 1985. This conference is one of the oldest of its kind and has served as a source of inspiration, instruction, education, revelation and training for pastors, church leaders, business and political leaders.

Within the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World, Inc. he held various positions. He became the Northern Ohio District Youth Chairman, Youth Chairman of the International Pentecostal Young People’s Union, District Elder with the state of Ohio, and General Secretary. During the 1988 summer convention of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World, Inc., he was consecrated Bishop and made Diocesan of the 31st Episcopal District {Continent of Europe}, an under-served region at that time. Under his leadership, the European Council of Nations (ECN) was established. Bishop Wagner, along with his team established over 35 churches as well as accepting into its diocese several established churches.

In 1998, Bishop Wagner was elected to the Office of Presiding Prelate of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World, Inc., the oldest and one of the largest Apostolic organizations in the world with well over 1.5 million followers worldwide. He served in that capacity for two full terms and later became the Bishop of the 13th Episcopal District (State of Texas) within the organization.

Bishop Norman L. Wagner was a man of compassion, integrity, excellence and vision. His love and desire for all men to excel and be blessed is apparent in the many sacrifices he and his wife have made, but more importantly, the products of humanity that have been produced. His favorite call was being a husband to Rita Helen and father to their two miracle daughters, Christian Joy and Camille Antoinette (Kent Barrett). They have two beautiful granddaughters, British Milan and Dream Harmony. Bishop Norman L. Wagner departed this life on January 30, 2010 at the age of 68, a couple of weeks after heart surgery.
