Mother’s Nightclub is one of the original nightclubs from the 1960’s. Mother’s has seen some of the most influential bands of the 60’s and 70’s on it’s stage, including Cream, the Velvet Underground and Chicago. It was also one of the original venues allowing House Music and continues to be a destination for live music and dancing in Chicago.

This is “The Original Harptones” of Cincinnati, Ohio and not the secular group from NY. They were a gospel group that started around 1950-1958 as the Avant Singers. They have since stopped singing (due to the passing of several of the members) but in this video (taped at New Friendship Baptist Church in 1991) the opening song (led by David Godfrey) is called “Pray”. Members at that time were Jim Avant, William Godfrey, Donald Oliver, Joe Jenkins, Jonas Berry and David Godfrey. They were one of the best kept secrets of Cincinnati and the Acapella world.
In 1941 inventor/musician O.W. Appleton designed a solid-body single cutaway carved-top electric guitar, the APP. This was ten years before Gibson introduced the VERY similar Les Paul! Here is the Marty Haggard band featuring Eugene Moles using the original one-of-a-kind O.W.Appleton APP guitar! Although other folks had built solid body electrics by 1941, O.W.Appleton was the FIRST to design a guitar in the shape and style that we now know and love.

“Genesis”, was originally composed and produced by Dennis Byrd of Toledo, Ohio. He was only 19 years old when he wrote this Gospel Music Classic. The song instantly became a hit when he and young choir performed “Genesis” at GMWA 1974 in Cleveland, Ohio.
Most choirs perform a shortened version of “Genesis”. This is the original full version as recorded by Dennis Byrd and the Toledo Angelic Choir, fomerly the Woodward High School Afro-American Gospel Choir on 45 rpm and released in1974.
