Melissa Benoist on Good Will Hunting and Her Supergirl Costume | Screen Tests | W Magazine

Views:62402|Rating:4.93|View Time:2:40Minutes|Likes:1039|Dislikes:15
In this Screen Tests interview, Supergirl actress Melissa Benoist opens up Cold Mountain, having a crush on Gene Kelly, Good Will Hunting, Joni Mitchell, and Justice League.

The big-budget “Supergirl,” which first premiered on CBS but is moving to the CW for its upcoming second season, is a smart, feminist translation of the DC universe onto the small screen. And its caped star, Melissa Benoist, is a welcome piece of unexpected casting, having come from the song-and-dance school of “Glee.”

What was the first thing you auditioned for?
I think the first thing I ever auditioned for was my aunt’s church production of Alice in Wonderland. And she did give me a part. She was a good aunt, and I played the Ace of Spades and the Bread and Butterfly. This was in Aurora, Colorado, and I missed two of my entrances. [Laughs] I was four.

Did you get the acting bug?
Oh, yeah. I had the bug before that, I think. I would put on productions for my family.

Oh, really? You wrote them?
Yeah, or it was just me dancing to Bon Jovi for all my stuffed animals. “Dead or Alive.” [Laughs] My family would videotape me secretly. Because I would be shy and stop if I saw them with a camera.

Was there a moment you told your parents you wanted to be an actress?
No, I don’t think there was any particular moment. I think they always knew. And I’m pretty sure it was grandpa who told my mom, “That girls needs to be on the stage.” I think they could all just see how much I loved it. I wanted to be on Broadway, and I still do. I grew up singing, and dancing, and acting. Tap dancing was my favorite. So I came to New York to go to college after living in Denver, and then I moved to LA when I got “Glee.”

What did you do for your “Glee” audition?
I sang about 12 songs: some Indigo Girls, Sara Bareilles, maybe a David Bowie song, I think some Talking Heads. Like, weird songs you would never think to sing for a “Glee” audition. [Laughs]

Did you get a lot of feedback from the world when you got “Supergirl”? It’s a big responsibility, Supergirl.

Yeah, I have learned this. You know, everyone still asks me, “How does it feel to be a role model?” Or, “Do you feel a responsibility or a burden?” And I never did until I would see groups of little girls or young women, and how much they were affected by the “S” and what Supergirl stands for. How much hope she brought. So yeah, I do feel that responsibility. It seems she is someone who people gravitate towards because she’s so full of hope, joy, and optimism.

And they get to be her for Halloween. [Laughs]
Right? It’s such a great costume. There’s a skirt. It’s cute, but it’s still modest. You’re not sexy Supergirl, although I’m sure some people will do that.

In this episode of Birthday Stories, Melissa Benoist discusses her love for Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and the 11th birthday party her parents threw for her based on that theme.

The big-budget “Supergirl,” which first premiered on CBS but is moving to the CW for its upcoming second season, is a smart, feminist translation of the DC universe onto the small screen. And its caped star, Melissa Benoist, is a welcome piece of unexpected casting, having come from the song-and-dance school of “Glee.” For the Royals portfolio, we paired her with one of the stalwarts of the first wave of superheroines, Halle Berry, who first appeared as the thunderbolt-throwing Storm, in 2000’s X-Men.

The Trojan horse of ‘deep time’ (Creation Magazine LIVE! 4-12)

Views:4263|Rating:4.60|View Time:28:31Minutes|Likes:137|Dislikes:12
In the famous tale from Homer’s “Odyssey” the fortress of Troy was defeated by the Greek army leaving a large wooden horse (secretly filled with soldiers) behind as a supposed gift. The Trojans willingly took it into their city leading to their defeat. Today’s episode retraces how ‘deep time’ infiltrated the church in a similar way, and led to the lack of biblical authority we see today.

The Creation Magazine LIVE! TV program is a ministry of Creation Ministries International. With offices in seven countries and more PhD scientists than any Christian organization this program shows how the latest scientific discoveries support the Bible and refute evolution and million of years.

Exploring Las Cruces – The Arch – Las Cruces Magazine

Views:874|Rating:5.00|View Time:44Minutes|Likes:8|Dislikes:0
The opening is known by several different names such as the Natural Arch, Needle’s Eye, Circle Rock, and Ring Rock―just to name a few. Here’s a rough outline of how to get there:

Go North on I25 and take exit 9 for NM-320, Doña Ana. Turn left onto NM-320 (Thorpe Rd). Continue to follow NM-320 (Thorpe Rd) until you can turn right onto Doña Ana Rd.
Continue on Doña Ana Rd and turn right on a dirt road that goes underneath the train track bridge, should be D62. Follow that under the tracks and it’ll turn into D053. From there if you look up towards the Doña Ana Mountains on one of the peaks to the left, you’ll see two very visible dirt trails that join together at the top, they almost make a circle. At the top of that dirt trail circle you can just barely make out the opening of this rock. From this point, you can take any number of trails to get there depending on your preference. Many are very, very steep though so proceed with caution.

As an aside, please respect the natural beauty by not littering and if so inclined, pick up any debris you find along the way to help preserve our area’s trails.

In 2016, for a live performance for TIME, Franklin returned to that church in Detroit, Michigan. #ArethaFranklin #QueenofSoul #RIPArethaFranklin
