Chandler was born in Seattle, Washington. His father was in the military, causing him to move multiple times. They lived in Olympia, Washington; Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan; Alameda, California and Galveston, Texas. In Texas, the 6′ 5″ Chandler was a member of the high school football team. He oftens refers to the fact that Jeff Faircloth, a football teammate, was quick to share the good news of Jesus with him in a way that intrigued Chandler. Over the course of two years, Chandler attended church gatherings, opposed the beliefs, raised questions and doubts against Christianity and eventually submitted his life to the Lordship of Christ.[3]
Following high school, Chandler acquired his first job, as a janitor at Pine Drive Christian School in Dickinson, Texas. Chandler first spoke in front of a crowd when he was asked to share his testimony at a high school chapel. He was then offered a job as a youth minister at a small Baptist church in La Marque, Texas at the age of 18. Chandler moved to Abilene, Texas where he attended Hardin-Simmons University. While there, Chandler began leading the weekly Grace Bible Study at the Paramount Theater, which grew from a couple of hundred attendees to a couple of thousand. Chandler earned a Bible degree from Hardin-Simmons University. In 1996, Chandler was hired by Beltway Park Baptist Church under pastor David McQueen. In 1999, Chandler started a non-profit called Waiting Room Ministries with close friend Shane Barnard. Chandler twice started seminary classes but dropped out both times because he felt that he had acquired the tools he was learning from seminary back in bible school. He married his wife, Lauren, on July 31, 1999, and they have three children: Audrey, Reid and Norah.
A woman on the board of his non-profit organization asked Chandler to put in a résumé at Highland Village First Baptist Church. Chandler claims he did not expect to get the job due to conflicts in beliefs. Despite this, he was offered the job, and in 2002 he accepted the position. The church at that point had an attendance of 160 people. Now known as The Village Church, it has since grown to over 14,000 attendees. Chandler says his character was partially shaped by John Piper
On Thanksgiving morning in 2009, Chandler had a seizure at his home[10] and was later diagnosed with anaplastic oligodendroglioma, a malignant brain tumor. Chandler commented in June 2010 that he believed that God healed his cancer. He received treatment at Baylor University Medical Center and was given a clean bill of health in September 2010.
In March 2012, Chandler was named president of Acts 29 Network, succeeding Mark Driscoll, who had helped found the network of church planters. Acts 29 Network is a partnership of church plants that has grown to over 400 churches in the United States and around the world.

– This video was recorded at a celebration of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr at Campbellsville University in Campbellsville, KY in the Ransdell Chapel on campus.

Dr. Kevin Wayne Cosby is a man highly favored of God. He was born in Louisville, Kentucky on July 15, 1958. His grandfather, Rev. Benjamin James Miller was also a minister. Dr Cosby got his Bachelor of Arts degree from Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, Kentucky, a Master of Divinity degree from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky, and a Doctor of Ministry degree from United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio.

Dr. Cosby has served St. Stephen Church as senior pastor, and the Louisville metropolitan community, since 1979. Under his anointed leadership, the church has grown from 500 to over 10,000 members and in the July/August 2005 issue of Outreach Magazine, was listed as one of the top 100 largest churches in America. In the words of Emerge Magazine, St. Stephen Church is “One of the six super churches of the South”. During Dr. Cosby’s tenure, the church has helped improve the condition of the surrounding neighborhoods and their resident’s lives, by building a 1,500 seat worship center; erecting one of the premier family life centers in the country; purchasing and converting the former only Black owned and operated, Simmons University property into a multi-purpose life enrichment center; establishing transitional housing for recovering addicts, and purchasing and demolishing neighborhood liquor stores and nightclubs. Dr. Cosby also followed God’s guidance and led St. Stephen Church into the planting and building of a new church, and 1,000 seat worship/prayer retreat center, in Jeffersonville, Indiana, in the fall of 2004.

Dr. Cosby was recently elected as the 13th President of Simmons College of Kentucky, Louisville, KY (formerly Simmons Bible College), one of the oldest Black owned and operated colleges in the nation.

He’s also been featured in the following magazines and newspapers:
• Jet Magazine
• The Atlanta Constitution
• The Baltimore Sun
• The Louisville-Courier Journal
• The Louisville Defender
• The Lexington Herald-Leader
• Louisville Magazine- cover story-September 1993
• Louisville Magazine- Ranked one of the “50 Most Powerful/Influential Louisvillians”-43rd in 1994 and 23rd in 2005.
• Leadership Journal- “Wing Walkers” (Six Key Leaders), Winter 1996
• Business First of Louisville, March 1997 issue and April 2000 issue.

Dr. Cosby has authored the following books: “Get off Your But! : Messages, Musings & Ministries to Empower the African-American Church”, “As They Went”, “Treasure Worth Seeking”, and the newly released, “Who’s Your Daddy: Life Lessons from the Prodigal Son”, which has received superb reviews. He has also served as contributing author for the following publications: Black Baptist Sunday School Growth, No Other Help I Know: Sermons on Prayer and Spirituality, and The African American Pulpit Series.

A common thread found in Pastor Cosby’s teaching is that there is no “self-made” man. He says “Self-help is no help!” He consistently stresses that there is only one person that can help all of humanity, and that person is Jesus Christ. Any success achieved by Dr. Cosby, is always attributed to the hand of God, and to those people who have helped him along the way.

Dr. Cosby is married to the former Barnetta Turner, and they are the parents of two adult children.
