Migrant families jump Tijuana border fence, head to U.S.

Central American migrants climbed over a border fence in Tijuana on Thursday (December 27), as many grow restless in shelters south of the border to get their asylum claims to U.S. authorities.

A series of fences dot the international border line between Mexico and the U.S. near Tijuana. Migrants crossing this older section of the fence were met by U.S. border patrol officials on the other side.

Mexican officials have said as many as 1,000 individuals from the caravan of Central American migrants have hopped or otherwise skirted fences to reach the U.S. since they arrived to the border city of Tijuana.

U.S. President Donald Trump has sought to make it harder to get asylum, claiming criminals are amongst the migrant group. But a federal court has placed a temporary restraining order on his policy that only permitted asylum claims made at official ports of entry.

Under former President Barack Obama a system dubbed “metering” began, which limits how many can ask for asylum each day in Tijuana. Lawyers say Trump is using the system more aggressively to stem the flow at the port of entry.

21 Jump Street is an American police procedural television series that aired on the Fox network and in first run syndication from April 12, 1987, to April 27, 1991, with a total of 103 episodes. The series focuses on a squad of youthful-looking undercover police officers investigating crimes in high schools, colleges, and other teenage venues.[1] It was originally going to be titled Jump Street Chapel, after the deconsecrated church building in which the unit has its headquarters, but was changed at Fox’s request so as not to mislead viewers into thinking it was a religious program.

Created by Patrick Hasburgh and Stephen J. Cannell, the series was produced by Patrick Hasburgh Productions and Stephen J. Cannell Productions in association with 20th Century Fox Television. Executive Producers included Hasburgh, Cannell, Steve Beers and Bill Nuss. The show was an early hit for the fledgling Fox network, and was created to attract a younger audience.[2] The final season aired in first-run syndication mainly on local Fox affiliates. It was later rerun on the FX cable network from 1996 to 1998.

The series provided a spark to Johnny Depp’s nascent acting career, garnering him national recognition as a teen idol. Depp found this status irritating,[3] but he continued on the series under his contract and was paid $45,000 per episode. Eventually he was released from his contract after the fourth season.[3][4]

A spin-off series, Booker, was produced for the character of Dennis Booker (Richard Grieco); it ran one season, from September 1989 to June 1990. A film adaptation directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller was released on March 16, 2012. The film is set in the same continuity as the series, with Johnny Depp, Holly Robinson and Peter DeLuise reprising their characters in cameo appearances. Richard Grieco and Dustin Nguyen also have cameos in the 2014 film sequel 22 Jump Street.

Robby Knievel’s Palm Springs Motorcycle Jump

Robbie Knievel celebrated sobriety by performing a ramp-to-ramp motorcycle jump in Palm Springs California, as part of the Spa Resort Casino’s Brews and BBQ Festival. This 30 yard jump was over the ever present line up of golf carts, fitting for Palm Springs.
Unfortunately due to the tight venue he had a hard stop against the hay bales at the far end of his landing point.
Luckily he was able to get up and walk away (like all old pilots used to say, any landing you can walk away from is a good one!).
