USA Can Am Spyder Roadtrip – Bisbee Arizona near Mexican Border Part 3

In 2017, Lidia and I (Pierre) rode across the USA on our Can Am Spyders. Along our way, 2 countries, 21 States, 2 provinces and around 7500 miles in 29 days. We had lots of sunshine, some rain and hail and missed a snow storm in the Colorado Rockies by about 30 minutes !!! The coldest weather was around freezing point 32 Degrees and got well above 110 in Arizona. No issues with both our Spyder, a 2014 RT and a 2015 F3s did the job. We both had trailers, a 622 from BRP and Grizzly trailer made in Quebec, both did really well with no problems. Follow our Youtube channel to see the videos, lots there including the videos that we shoot at the Spyder Shop in Lavaltrie Quebec.
This is the ride In Bisbee Arizona near the Mexican border. Our friends Jeff and Bonnie led the way, good times !!

Crested Butte | Mountain Biking the 403

Views:466|Rating:4.09|View Time:14:15Minutes|Likes:9|Dislikes:2
My day consisted of riding Gothic road to Snodgrass, then climbing Washington Gulch Road to the 403, climbing and descending that, then climbing Gothic to the 401 and completing the full length of the 401 back to the car. I did this loop (a long 6-1/2 hour day) but my GpPro decided to not record a thing from the very top of the 401 so I got no footage of any of that. I was crushed (as it was the most perfect day ever) but It’ll give me a reason to go back..

So, this focuses on the 403 with a bit of Snodgrass and the road for good measure. You can see a longer cut of the prior day’s Snodgrass journey here:

I was not quick descending the 403 (mid pack according to Strava) but it was my first time down and I think it gives you a more realistic view of what the typical weekend warrior may do on their first ride of this fairly intimidating mountain.

But enjoy and go ride it! It’s worth the 2,000ft climb (or shuttle it).

Ruins in the shadow of Perfecting Church construction – Detroit Drone

Views:6417|Rating:4.75|View Time:2:44Minutes|Likes:19|Dislikes:1
One block away from the new church construction, a broken neighborhood awaits salvation.

Pastor Marvin L. Winans of Perfecting Church doesn’t like the label “mega church”. He says it implies callousness, a big business feel and it takes it out of the realm of family.

In 1989 Pastor Winans, who is part of the Grammy award winning, gospel singing dynasty known as The Winans, started his church with only eight people. He says four of them he clothed and fed.

22 years later he has more than 4,000 members and Perfecting Church’s new sanctuary at 7 Mile and Woodward will open next year, It will easily seat 5,000 members, when the average church in America only has 250 members in the congregation.

Pastor Winans is a boots on the ground preacher and fighter for Detroit — taking on hot button issues with the city council to rid neighborhoods of strip clubs. And he’s against the downsizing of Detroit.

After growing up in the projects of Detroit he knows poverty and he knows the need. So he opened Perfecting Community Care seven years ago, where the needy can come for meals, clothes and job support.

Disheartened with DPS, 14 years ago he opened a church-sponsored charter school — The Marvin L. Winans Academy for the Performing Arts. It now serves kids K through 12.

In his mother’s honor, he also opened a shelter for women and children. He said, “We discovered the largest population among the homeless was women, so we created the Amelia Agnes Home for Women.”

But with all the good that comes from these churches there are still critics and naysayers who believe preachers get rich on the backs of the poor. Rev Winans urges them to “Follow me to the Parkside Project. Don’t talk about where I am until you know where I’ve been.”

He says, “You have to be smart and you have to have temperance. I don’t think your car should be longer than your church. I don’t think your house should be bigger than your church. I don’t think you should have servants that can work so you can maintain a lifestyle.”

Like it or not, these majestic churches with their influence and outreach are here to stay and with all the poverty and crime plaguing the City of Detroit, many feel during these times of economic downturn God may be exactly what the Motor City needs.

Elkhorn Ghost Town 4k

Elkhorn, Montana

Ghost Town Outside of Boulder Montana.

Coordinates– 46°16′29″N 111°56′45″W

Lodes of silver, described by geologists as supergene enrichments, were initially discovered in the Elkhorn mountains by Peter Wys, a Swiss immigrant. Six years later, Anton Holter, a pioneer capitalist from Helena, Montana, began developing the mine. Over $14 million in silver was carried from the mine. In 1890, the Sherman Silver Purchase Act passed, creating a high demand for Elkhorn’s silver.

During this peak period, Elkhorn had 2,500 inhabitants, a school, a hotel, a church, stores, saloons, and brothels. Unlike most mining towns, Elkhorn was populated mostly by married European immigrants. In 1893 the Fraternity Hall was constructed for social gatherings, and still remains as one of the most well-preserved buildings in modern Elkhorn.

In the years following, the silver boom and Elkhorn’s prosperity began to lessen as the desire for silver decreased. A diphtheria epidemic also struck Elkhorn in the winter of 1888–1889, resulting in many deaths, particularly of children. Soon after, railroad service to Elkhorn was halted and only a fraction of the original inhabitants remained.

Crested Butte | Mountain Biking Teocali Ridge

Views:507|Rating:5.00|View Time:15:48Minutes|Likes:11|Dislikes:0
Riding Teocali Ridge as a loop starts of with a long double track climb followed by a steep single track climb to get to the top. From there, the descent is a mix of rocky, but mostly dirt single track through pines and aspens. There are a couple a couple of drops and some gully cutes to navigate but for the most part is is not that technical and is a solid intermediate ride. A series of switch backs leads to a short section of exposure on the mountain side but then you’re back into trees. The final descent finished through meadow before dirt road back to the start. Expect stream crossings and wet feet.
