La Villita is the name of the “original” city of San Antonio that was founded in 1722. It’s now part of downtown San Antonio, which is one of the ten largest cities in the United States.
La Villita is one of the top tourist attractions in San Antonio. Visitors are charmed by its old world setting which includes dozens of small shops and outstanding restaurants. The Little Church of La Villita was built in 1879, serves several denominations and is a favorite site for weddings.
La Villita sits along the San Antonio River, close to the most popular tourist attractions in San Antonio: the River Walk, the Alamo, the Tower Of The Americas and HemisFair Park.
One of the most interesting spots in La Villita is the Arneson River Theater, where tourists can sit in an open air amphitheater and watch productions on stage across the River Walk.
I shot this video with my cell phone during a visit to La Villita in June of 2013.
Another Vacation Bible School at University Baptist Church has come and gone. This is a wrap-up video slideshow meant to serve as a celebration played during our church service with our congregation. Our tiny church continues to run VBS in a big way! This time we ran June 5-9. We had great kids and great volunteers. Praise God and thanks to everybody involved!

October 7, 2012. 2012. Cherry Hill, NJ. St. Thomas Greek Orthodox church in Cherry Hill kicked off the month of October with their annual Greek Food and Wine Festival. Crisp fall temperatures kept the big Agora Tent full, the food lines long and smiles on peoples faces as record crowed’s came out to this annual event. Estimates ranged from 10,000 to 20,000 visited the event that was held for the 39th time. With the parking lots and streets full, the crowed’s stayed late in to the night on Saturday, dancing away the night to the Greek songs of “Atlantis of Philadelphia”. Phil Duncan earned his Masters of Music Education degree in 1973 at the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music. His thesis focused on the study of methods for teaching the beginning student of any musical instrument. He has taught piano, guitar, and harmonica since the age of 16, having been introduced to the harmonica by his grandfather at age 7. With a versatile educator’s experience ranging from elementary school through university levels, Phil served for many years as the vocal and general music teacher at Lakeview Middle School in Kansas City, Missouri. He is currently teaching at Park University in the Music Department. He instructs choir and voice as well as a class in Kansas City Jazz Style and classes on Music Education for Elementary Teachers.
As a clinician, Phil has conducted workshops at several harmonica conventions and at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, the University of Arkansas, the Texas Music Educator’s Conference, and has presented many other clinics throughout the Midwest. He is also active in community education, and has advised teachers in techniques to better instruct their students in the art of playing the harmonica.
Phil’s career as an author for Mel Bay Publications began in 1979 with the publication of The Deluxe Harmonica Method. This work was the result of ten years of research and two years of diligent writing. Since this auspicious beginning, Phil has published over 20 books and videos with Mel Bay Publications on virtually every aspect of playing the harmonica, making a significant contribution to the repertoire for this instrument. He also has 8 published instructional videos and is a recording artist with 15 albums to his credit.
He also performs on guitar and keyboard. Mel Bay has published his Learn to Play Rock/Blues Electronic Keyboard. Missouri Middle Schools’s Journal published his article on teaching harmonica playing in the middle school. The Missouri Conservation Commission published several of his harmonica arrangements in its Songbook in 1982. He also is a contributor for the Society for the Preservation and Advancement’s Harmonica Happenings news magazine.
