Chattanooga Mosque Opens Without Controversy

by Karen Zatkulak  A controversial mosque in Middle Tennessee finally opened Friday.  The Islamic Center of Murfreesboro hosted its first day of prayer Friday afternoon.Last month, a federal judge ruled the congregation has a right to worship at the mosque, as soon as the building is ready.  On Tuesday, Rutherford County officials granted the paperwork needed for the center to open.Mosque leaders say they plan to have extra security, but believe the rest of the day will be peaceful. With so many delays and disruptions in the building of the Middle Tennessee mosque, we wanted to check with the leaders of a similar local facility.  They tell us they’ve had the opposite reaction in Chattanooga, and have in fact been welcomed into the community.Muslims gathered in the prayer room of the new Chattanooga mosque. after their meditation on the 21st day of Ramadan.  President Bassam Issa walked us through the new building, showing us the gymnasium and the classrooms for the school that meets in the building as well. The building sits on Gunbarrel Road, not far from the interstate, and opened on July 20th without a hitch.Issa says there has been no controversy with their facility and credits the residents and leaders of the scenic city.  Issa says, “I think Chattanooga people are more understanding, we have done a groundwork getting people to understand and alleviate a lot of fear.”A fear that Issa watched unfold in Murfressboro.  He says politicians played a big part in that controversy.  “I’m happy to see that finally coming to an end, it should not have happened in the first place.”Issa says it’s a big day for all members of the Islamic community throughout the state and country, especially for the nearly 300 families now meeting at the new Chattanooga mosque. He adds that the building is an example of how differing religions should be accepted.  “Everything went so smoothly, city officials the people of Chattanooga, support from all churches, they have adopted us.”There will be an official opening of Chattanooga’s mosque on August 25th at 6pm.  Issa tells us they are inviting city officials, churches, and even law enforcement to that event.

Mountain biking is all about having fun! If you’re not enjoying yourself or having a good time, find something else to do. Personally, I love getting out on the trails and chasing the adventure being on bike allows. This morning I was able to ride with a subscriber of the channel which was also his first ride in a VERY long time. Don’t keep yourself off the trails just because you’ve never been… EVERYONE starts somewhere and I truly hope to be an inspiration to all of you watching to get out on the trails and explore your local community!

Keep Chasing the Adventure!
