General W.T. Sherman; Burning of Atlanta; Civil War – After Effects & CrazyTalk

In 1864, Gen Sherman marched into Atlanta, captured the city, and ordered the people to leave the city before his troops burned all government/military structures that were used to supply the Confederate Army. However, the fire got out of control and much of Atlanta was left in ruins. He later marched into Savannah, GA and into the Carolinas, destroying everything in their path, which ultimately ended the South’s ability to wage war.

*** The spoken words are excerpts from Gen. William T. Sherman’s letter to the mayor and council members of Atlanta, written on Sept. 12, 1864, ordering the city’s evacuation.
