The Esther Wideman Memorial Organ, C.B. Fisk Opus 150

In May 2018, Christ Church Philadelphia dedicated the Esther Wideman Memorial Organ, built by C.B. Fisk Organ Builders of Gloucester, Massachusetts.

Christ Church and the Christ Church Preservation Trust contracted with Fisk in 2015 for a comprehensive three-manual organ to be incorporated into the existing historic case built by Henry Erben in 1837, with the pipework positioned entirely out of the church’s tower space and into the nave proper. Christ Church musical director is Parker Kitterman.

Lucas Brown is a performing artist, composer and educator. He actively performs both Jazz and Classical music and has performed around the US at such venues as Carnegie Hall, the Kimmel Center, the Jazz Standard and the Blue Note, as well as in Europe and Asia. His compositions have been presented

We welcome your comments on the open blog thread for this show.

YouTube comments are at present disabled in our channel, to the displeasure of some. However, each video has a prominent link to the associated open thread that appears on our blog. In the past we’ve tried opening up the channel to comments, but we found that a very high number of episodes wound up being flooded with a combination of spam, long winded apologists, and various obscene or misogynistic comments directed at various hosts by people with an axe to grind. This seems to be the nature of YouTube comment sections, in our experience.

We do moderate the blog, the same way that we moderate chat during the show, as well as comments on our Facebook group. For comment sections that are “officially” associated with our show (and, to a much lesser extent, channels that may give the unintended appearance of being official), we prefer not to play host to straight up ad hominem attacks and bigotry. As a general policy we do not block commenters simply on the basis of disagreement with our point of view. However, we do prefer discussion environments that don’t actively chase off more reasonable contributors.

You can read more about this show on the Atheist Experience blog:

The Atheist Experience is a weekly call-in television show in Austin, Texas geared at a non-atheist audience. The Atheist Experience is produced by the Atheist Community of Austin.

The Atheist Community of Austin is organized as a nonprofit educational corporation to develop and support the atheist community, to provide opportunities for socializing and friendship, to promote secular viewpoints, to encourage positive atheist culture, to defend the first amendment principle of state-church separation, to oppose discrimination against atheists and to work with other organizations in pursuit of common goals.

We define atheism as the lack of belief in gods. This definition also encompasses what most people call agnosticism.

Written by Dennis Jernigan

You are my strength when I am weak
You are the treasure that I seek
You are my all in all
Seeking You as a precious jewel
Lord, to give up I’d be a fool
You are my all in all

Taking my sin, my cross, my shame
Rising up again I bless Your name
You are my all in all
When I fall down You pick me up
When I am dry You fill my cup
You are my all in all

Jesus, Lamb of God
Worthy is Your name
Jesus, Lamb of God
Worthy is Your name

You are my strength when I am weak
You are the treasure that I seek
You are my all in all
Seeking You as a precious jewel
Lord, to give up I’d be a fool
You are my all in all

Jesus, Lamb of God
Worthy is Your name
Jesus, Lamb of God
Worthy is Your name

Dennis Jernigan is a singer-songwriter of contemporary Christian music. He is native to Oklahoma, and headquarters a music-based ministry from there. Jernigan now lives in Muskogee, Oklahoma with his wife and their nine children. He claims to have overcome homosexuality. Jenigan has been married to his wife for more than twenty five years.

A primary source of inspiration for Jernigan’s message and music is an experience he describes as his “deliverance from homosexuality”. Jernigan states that this began during a 2nd Chapter of Acts concert in Norman, Oklahoma.[1][2] Jernigan believes his prior identification as homosexual was related to an erroneous childhood perception that he had been rejected by his father.

As a boy I needed a role model to show me the way to manhood. But because I felt rejected by the main man in my life I, in turn, rejected him and began to yearn for intimacy with a man in perverse ways. Because of this wrong thinking I came to believe I was homosexual. It must have begun early in my life because I remember having those feelings for the same gender at a very early age.
It was then [during a critical moment at the 2nd Chapter of Acts concert] that I lost the need to be accepted or loved by others because I realized Jesus would love me and accept me no matter what, even when I was rejected by others! It was also at this same time that those sexually perverse thoughts and desires were changed…and He began to replace them with holy and pure thoughts about what sexual love was all about.

Following the experience at the concert, Jernigan developed a ministry based on his personal experience, which he shares at churches and other locations around the world. However, Jernigan is concerned that passage of the proposed Hate Crimes Bill (H.R. 1592) would strip him of his right to speak freely about his departure from a homosexual self identity

Church Street Railroad Crossing, Huntsville, AL

Signal on the left: 3 pairs of Safetran 12×20 inch lights, 1 pair of Safetran 12×24 inch lights, a WCH mechanical bell, an Invensys Rail gate mechanism, and RECO gate lights.
Signal on the right: 3 pairs of Safetran 12×20 inch lights, an Invensys Rail gate mechanism, and NEG gate lights.

Since my car went into and came out of the shop yesterday, I decided to head out today and see what was running on the NS in downtown. This was the first train I caught yesterday: an eastbound NS mixed freight with two Dash-9s leading an SD80MAC. You might also hear NS A81 doing some switching in the background.

For whatever reason, NS decided to replace Safetran 12×24 inch mast lights from the 1990s on the nearer cantilever signal with some new Safetran 12×20 inch lights. Not entirely sure why this was, as the rest of the crossing still remains the same, especially with the early Safetran 12×20 inch overhead lights on both signals and the pair of 1990s Safetran 12×24 inch lights on the mast of the far signal. I personally do think that the 12x24s that were on the near signal did look a bit better. The Huntsville Depot Museum (and the titular Huntsville Depot) can be seen on the left. The depot here in Huntsville was originally built by the Memphis & Charleston Railroad and housed the headquarters for their eastern division. It’s also the oldest surviving depot in the state of Alabama. The Regions Bank building and a few other skyscrapers in downtown Huntsville can also be seen in the background of the shot.

Also, as a bit of a side note: NS 335 is back and is running the Macon, GA to Sheffield, AL (via Chattanooga, TN) route that it had before being abolished a few years back! NS 364 is now the eastbound counterpart for this train, so I’ll have to see about catching both of them soon if possible.

I’m Walking In The Glory..
