“Mike Huckabee is not a man short on opinions, and he recently shared his on the issue of gun control in relation to the tragic Charleston shootings.

The 2016 Republican primary candidate has long supported gun rights, and the deaths of nine Christian church members aren’t moving that position one centimeter.

In fact, Huckabee believes that more guns, not less, would have prevented the massacre from occurring. In a recent interview with Fox News, via Mediaite, he had this to say.”

War on Christmas? Mom Objects to Church Field Trip

“A longtime holiday show, beloved by children, inadvertently sparked a controversy in Little Rock over the separation of church and state.

It happened when some teachers at Terry Elementary school sent letters home offering to shuttle first and second graders to see a stage version of “A Charlie Brown Christmas” at Agape, a local church.

“We’re not saying anything bad about Charlie Brown,” said Anne Orsi, a Little Rock Attorney and Vice President of the Arkansas Society of Freethinkers.”*

Conservatives are in a “War on Christmas” panic after news broke out that an Atheist mother in Arkansas pulled her child out from a school trip to see a production of “It’s Christmas, Charlie Brown” that was being held in a church. Was the mother and was the school being fair? Is this just desperate posturing to maintain the myth of the War on Christmas? Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian break it down.

Charleston Judge: ‘Forgive Dylann Roof’

“The judge presiding over Friday’s appearance by the 21-year-old accused of a racially motivated mass shooting at a Charleston, South Carolina, church has previously been reprimanded for using a racial epithet in court.

Charleston County Magistrate James Gosnell was publicly reprimanded by a South Carolina disciplinary body in 2005 for uttering a derogatory word for an African-American to a defendant at a bond hearing. The same reprimand noted that Gosnell later bent the rules to get another judge out of jail who’d been caught driving under the influence with an open container in his car.

In 2003, according to records on the South Carolina Judicial Department website, Gosnell spoke to a black defendant appearing before him whom he knew personally.”

Church Refuses Weddings Until Same Sex Marriage is Legal

“A Winston-Salem-based United Methodist church has announced that it will stop performing straight weddings until same-sex marriage is legalized in North Carolina.

The Green Street United Methodist Church announced its decision in a powerful, deeply affirming statement asking the congregation’s pastors to perform marital blessings in lieu of official marriage rites.”*

The Green Street United Methodist Church in North Carolina is taking a stand for gay marriage- refusing to perform any weddings until gay couples can be legally married in the state too. Will it work? Is religion inherently opposed to gay rights, or just the mainstream take on it? Ana Kasparian and John Iadarola (Host, TYT University) discuss.

Gay Man Denied Funeral At Florida Church

“Kendall Capers found no hope at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church after the death of his husband, Julion Evans, who died at age 42 from amyloidosis. Evans’ family are members of the New Hope congregation in Tampa, Florida, and Capers arranged to have the service there.

However, the funeral was abruptly canceled the night before it was scheduled to happen. The family was informed with a phone call from New Hope that said that it would be “blasphemous” to hold the service at the church, reported KCCI.

The cancellation came after members of New Hope noticed Evans’ obituary, which named Capers as the “surviving husband,” according to WFLA.”*

*One third of young people who left organized religion did so because of anti-gay teachings or treatment within their churches, according to a new study. While not surprising—it’s no secret that younger Americans are more accepting of gay people—it puts a number on the cost anti-gay policies can have on organizations. A full 31% of young people (ages 18 to 33) who left organized religion said “negative teachings” or “negative treatment” of gay people was a “somewhat important” or “very important” factor in their departure, as surveyed by the Public Religion Research Institute. ..* What do atheists think about this? Why Democrats Lost

“Resurgent Republicans captured Democratic seats in Arkansas and West Virginia and bid for control of the U.S. Senate and a tighter grip on the House Tuesday in elections shaped by deep voter discontent with President Barack Obama.

The party’s leader, Sen. Mitch McConnell, dispatched Democratic challenger Alison Lundergan Grimes in Kentucky after a $78 million campaign of unrelieved negativity.

Two-term Sen. Mark Pryor of Arkansas was the first Democratic incumbent to fall, defeated by freshman Rep. Tom Cotton. Rep. Shelley Moore Capito was the GOP winner for a Senate seat in West Virginia, the first of her party to make that claim since 1956.

Republicans also reached out for relatively easy pickings among Senate seats held by Democrats in South Dakota and Montana.””* Cenk Uygur, Ana Kasparian, Ben Mankiewicz, Jimmy Dore (The Jimmy Dore Show) and RJ Eskow break it down on The Young Turks.

The shooting last night in Charleston, South Carolina at Emanuel AME Church, a historic black church in South Carolina, was done by a guy named Dylan Storm Roof. He appears to be some sort of ring-wing racist that targeted black people in this country

Cenk Uygur (The Young Turks) discusses the reaction to the shooting in Charleston, South Carolina. Tell us what you think in the comments below.

A heartbroken nation’s tension turned to mourning Thursday afternoon as news broke that the suspected gunman in an attack on a Charleston, South Carolina, church had been arrested, and the identities of his nine victims were released.

Dylann Roof, 21, allegedly entered the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church during a weekly Bible study meeting and opened fire around 9 p.m. Wednesday. Eight people were found shot to death at the scene, police said. Two others were transported to a hospital, where one later died.

Roof was captured Thursday morning in Shelby, North Carolina, according to Attorney General Loretta Lynch. Charleston Police Chief Greg Mullen said Roof was arrested during a traffic stop.

26 Dead After Mass Shooting In Texas Church

Views:144672|Rating:4.26|View Time:9:57Minutes|Likes:3546|Dislikes:614
A shooter open fire in in a Texas church killing 25. The shooter was also killed. John Iadarola and Mark Thompson, the hosts of The Young Turks, give you the details. Tell us what you think in the comment section below. Join TYT:

“At least 26 people were killed at a church in Sutherland Springs, Texas, on Sunday, law enforcement confirmed. The shooter is also dead following a brief chase.

“As a state, we are dealing with the largest mass shooting in our state’s history,” Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said.

Here’s what we know — and don’t.

What we know

The shooting reportedly occurred at the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, Texas, around 11:20 am local time, law enforcement said.

At least 26 people were killed, although it’s not clear if that number will rise, Abbott said at a press conference. Approximately 20 others were injured.

The shooter is dead following a car pursuit by a local resident. Wilson County Sheriff Joe Tackitt told CNN that the gunman shot himself after the resident hit him.

The dead victims’ ages range from 18 months to 77 years old, a Texas Department of Safety official said.

First Baptist Church Pastor Frank Pomeroy’s 14-year-old daughter and all of his family’s close friends were killed in the attack, Pomeroy told Houston-based ABC13.

The shooter has been identified as 26-year-old Devin Patrick Kelley, law enforcement officials told CBS and NBC News.

Kelley was previously in the Air Force, but he was court martialed and received a bad-conduct discharge for allegedly assaulting his spouse and their child, according to NBC News.

Local, state, and federal law enforcement are on the ground.

There is no other threat in the area at the time, according to law enforcement.

Sutherland Springs is about 30 miles southeast of San Antonio. It’s an unincorporated community with a population of about 600, according to CNN.

The church regularly posts videos of its services. They show a vibrant community, with parishioners singing, playing electric guitar, and talking about topics ranging from their faith to riding a motorcycle.”

Las Vegas Reaches HUGE Energy Milestone

Las Vegas is doing it’s part to fight climate change. Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian, hosts of The Young Turks, break it down. Tell us what you think in the comment section below.

“Just last week, Las Vegas announced it has reached its goal of powering the city entirely with renewable energy, meeting a goal the city has been working toward for nearly a decade. The goal was reached with the launch of Boulder Solar 1, a 100-megawatt solar plant located just outside the city.

Las Vegas began its renewable energy project in 2008, reducing electricity usage through sustainability programs and installing solar panels on city buildings. Las Vegas will also receive power from Hoover Dam for the first time in its history, starting at the end of 2017.

The city has reduced its electricity usage by more than 30 percent due to these initiatives. Estimates place the city’s yearly energy savings at approximately $5 million.

Las Vegas is now the largest U.S. city to be powered entirely by renewable energy. The second largest city, Burlington, Vermont, achieved this status in 2014.”

‘Sentenced to Church’ Judge vs. ACLU

Views:34211|Rating:4.80|View Time:4:25Minutes|Likes:855|Dislikes:35
“In November, Muskogee County District Judge Mike Norman stipulated that 17-year-old Tyler Alred should attend church regularly for 10 years as a requirement to avoid a prison sentence, the Tulsa World reported. The teen admitted to police he had been drinking in the Dec. 3, 2011, crash that killed his 16-year-old passenger and friend, John Luke Dum, according to the newspaper.

The ACLU of Oklahoma filed a complaint with state judicial misconduct authorities Tuesday alleging Norman’s ruling disregarded religious liberties in the federal and state constitutions.”*

The ACLU has filed a complaint against District Judge Mike Norman for sentencing a teen in a manslaughter case to church. Judge Norman stands by his sentence, but is it a fair punishment? What if the case had been tried in another state, and what if the teen had been a different religion? Is there any legal precedent to this? Ana Kasparian, Kim Horcher (Host, Nerd Alert), and Jayar Jackson discuss the ramifications of the judge’s decision and what he could have done instead.
